Common Skin Disorders
There are many different kinds of skin disorders that affect people these days. The majority of these conditions are relatively common and easy to manage, but some of the more serious conditions require special attention and advice from a qualified dermatologist, especially when it comes to using skin care products and applying makeup.
- Comedones - These are more commonly known as blackheads, which are small masses of discolored, hard sebum. They often appear on the face, shoulders, back and chest. Blackheads are caused by the sebaceous glands producing too much oil for your skin.
A daily skin care routine ( cleanse, tone and moisturize ) will help to reduce the oiliness of the skin. A weekly face scrub is extremely beneficial too.
- Milia - Or whiteheads, are caused by the accumulation of oil beneath the skin. Whiteheads are more of a problem for those with dry skin.
- Dermatitis - This is an inflammatory condition of the skin which can result in red, scaly lesions. Sometimes these lesions can contain a clear fluid.
- Eczema - A very common inflammation of the skin resulting in itchy, red, blistering lesions. Severe cases can leave these lesions all over your body. All cases of eczema should be treated by a doctor.
- Psoriasis - This condition results in dry patches covered with rough scaly skin. While it is not contagious, it can be spread by irritation. Extra care with makeup application is required in these cases.
- Rosacea - Usually caused by an inability to digest certain foods and alcohol, this disorder appears most commonly on the nose and cheek areas. The skins pores become enlarged and the dilation of the blood vessels results in coarse red patches.
- Furuncle - Better known as a boil, which is caused by bacteria that enters the skin through the hair follicles. Boils can become extremely painful and infected if not treated by a doctor.
